Community Development

MPSSAS values community outreach and development as a way to raise public awareness of sexual assault and abuse. We are working together with community partners with the goal of ending all violence (sexual, physical, and emotional).

We focus on activities with educate the general public regarding the oppression of all forms including racism, sexism, trans misogyny, and gender inequality in the media, justice system, and society as a whole.

Partners of Survivors Workshop

Have you ever wondered,

  • How did sexual abuse affect my partner?

  • What about intimacy and trust?

  • How can I help my partner?

  • Can't my partner just "get over it"?

If your partner has been affected by sexual abuse violence recently or in the past, you may be struggling to understand what they are going through and how best to support them. We provide workshops that inform and support survivors and their partners by request.

Ignite Memorial

The Ignite Monument was built as a memorial to honour those affected by gender-based violence in Canada and to raise awareness for the cause.

This memorial is inclusive of all women across Canada who have been affected by violence and continue to be affected by violence today. We want to recognize that these women are not just numbers in a statistic, but people in our homes and our communities.

Chorus of Courage

Our agency became involved with Cindy Doire and her idea for this wonderful project ... Chorus of Courage.

We are tremendously grateful for the opportunity to support some survivors who’ve used our healing programs to share their stories, and to support others in telling theirs. A performance of the 10 songs was held at the Ottawa National Centre for the Performing Arts, on March 8, 2024 and a second project is now underway, thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts.

We'd like to thank Sirius XM for their donation.

We encourage you to check out the website and hear the music by downloading the Chorus of Courage album on your favourite streaming service.

These powerful stories need to be heard.  Your support for this project and your advocacy for change is most welcomed!

Volunteer Services

MPSSAS is thrilled to have the support of many skilled volunteers who are committed to raising awareness about sexual violence and supporting survivors to heal. We are currently recruiting volunteers for our 24/7 Anonymous Sexual Assault Help Line.  The Help Line provides support and referrals to survivors of sexual assault. We are also looking for volunteers to assist other agency activities (no formal training required) such as for special events, fundraising initiatives, drop-in programs, and the Board of Directors.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact our volunteer coordinator, Martina Cole.
