Sacred Medicines

We invite you to read about the sacred Healing Medicines below.
Return to this resource any time you need guidance on how to use them.

Water

Water is one of our first medicines. Water is the lifeblood of our mother Earth and the first home we ever knew, held in the water of our mother’s womb. Water teaches us about cleansing, balance, and renewal. When we sit with Water, it helps wash away heaviness, bringing clarity to our spirit and heart.

We honour Water because it carries our prayers, stories, and our medicines. Every plant, everything within Creation depends on Water. When we offer gratitude, speak gently, and protect it, we strengthen our relationship with all living things.

Water reminds us that healing is always moving- flowing, shifting, and returning us to who we truly are.

Sage

Sage is used for cleansing and releasing what no longer serves us. Its smoke helps clear heavy, negative, or stressful energy from our mind, body, and spirit. Sage supports grounding, calmness, and emotional balance.

Sweetgrass

Sweetgrass is known as the hair of Mother Earth. It brings gentle, positive energy and invites kindness, love, and good thoughts. After cleansing, sweetgrass helps draw in what is good, warm, and healing.

Tobacco

Tobacco is a sacred offering medicine. It is used to communicate with the spirit world, to give thanks, and to show respect when asking for guidance, support, or knowledge. Tobacco carries our thoughts and prayers to the Creator.

Cedar

Cedar is a protective medicine. It strengthens our spirit, offers purification, and helps create a safe space. Cedar is often used for renewal, prayer, and supporting the body during times of transition or difficulty.

Smudging

Smudging is a ceremony that uses the smoke of sacred medicines—such as sage, sweetgrass, cedar, or tobacco—to cleanse our mind, body, spirit, and emotions. We smudge to release heavy or negative energy, to ground ourselves, and to come into balance before important work, gatherings, or moments of reflection. The medicines help us reconnect with Creation, honour our ancestors, and create a safe and respectful space for healing. Smudging brings us into the present with a good mind, clear intentions, and an open heart so we can walk our day in a good way.
